Job Title:	K12 Virtual Learning Interventionist (Reading)
Terms of Employment:	Teacher Salary Scale / 9.5-month (200 Day)
FLSA Status:	Exempt
Work Location:	Richmond Virtual Academy
Immediate Supervisor:	Building Principal

 

 

General Description:

The K12 Virtual Learning Interventionist (Reading) coordinates all operational aspects of academic interventions and supports both within and beyond the formal school day (e.g. intervention blocks, extended day, Saturday, and summer school). The K12 Virtual Learning Interventionist works closely with key stakeholders, including the school leadership team, instructional staff, families, community-based partners, and the City of Richmond to implement and evaluate the division-wide strategy for academic support and enrichment to ensure student success.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Knows and effectively communicates the Richmond Public Schools (RPS) philosophy and mission for academic intervention
• Serves as the school-based point of contact for all matters related to the operational components of in-school interventions including the School-Based Intervention Team (SBIT) process, extended day and Saturday programming, and summer school services, to ensure effective planning for, and implementation of, the division’s strategy to provide additional academic support and enrichment to students
• Assesses children throughout the school and identifies children at risk (Tiers II and III)
• Designs and implements academic interventions using research-based methodology in reading and/or math for children at risk including intervention support during the school day and after-school intervention support
• Documents interventions and progress as well as communicates with school personnel and parents of children at risk data regarding reading and/or math level and rate of progress. . 
• Provides small group instruction for scholars in need of support
• Supervises and supports students in a variety of school-related settings including but not limited to instruction and assessments held both virtually and in person
• Collaborates with teachers to develop, select, modify, and facilitate instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students. 
• Maintains appropriate records and follows required procedures and practices. 
• Monitors appropriate use and care of equipment, materials, and facilities. 
• Provide accurate and timely data to the school and division leadership teams to monitor student progress and evaluate the impact of extended support efforts
• Coordinates with school leadership and community partners to ensure adequate staffing for academic interventions and extended time supports
• Coordinates with school leadership to communicate opportunities for academic support and enrichment to families; ensures families understand key information related to extended time opportunities, including recruiting targeted students and facilitating the registration process
• Actively participates in district and school based faculty and/or department meetings. 
• Assists in the preparation of data for local, state and federal reports.
• Reviews, approves and submits, as assigned, various reports related to: payroll, payment to community partners, supplies and materials for extended time, and other reports as requested
• Performs other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications:

• Postgraduate professional license with an endorsement in PreK-6 or English
• Elementary and Secondary school experience preferred
• Demonstrated leadership qualities and ability to work effectively with students, teachers, parents, business and community leaders and partners
• Exceptional organizational skills and self-management abilities
• Excellent interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, team environment
• Fluency with the Google Suite of applications
• Ability to work a flexible schedule
• Ability to report in person at the school as needed
• Possession of a valid Virginia driver’s license is required; access to own vehicle
• Bilingual/fluency in Spanish preferred
