SPECIAL INFORMATION: The MathScience Innovation Center (MSiC) is a regional STEM Center supported by a consortium of school divisions in the metro Richmond region.  This position requires the ability to develop and implement MSiC Mathematics lessons to students and teachers (K-8) at the Center, as well as in classrooms across the region both in person and virtually.  To learn about the MathScience Innovation Center, visit our website http://www.mymsic.org.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: Strong background in teaching mathematics as evidenced by undergraduate degree, significant coursework and/or experience. Master’s Degree preferred. Hold or be eligible to hold Virginia Certification in Education. Minimum of 5 years teaching experience in grades K-8 (must be during the academic year and as the primary assignment). Strong preference for demonstrated teaching experiences at multiple levels including 9-12 and /or at the undergraduate level. Some experience with teaching science content preferred. Demonstrated ability to design and implement student and teacher learning experiences which are inquiry-based, SOL-focused, with futuristic-oriented approaches to content, pedagogy and technology. Ability to provide training for teachers through the design and delivery of professional development courses. Familiarity with state and professional organizations/agencies and ability to use these resources to bring “cutting-edge” programs to the MSiC is highly valued.  Upon completing the online application, must also complete the TalentEd EPI assessment. 

 

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS: Use research and other data to provide curricular and programmatic input regarding “real-world” applications of mathematics for students and teachers. Ability to work independently and as a team to develop and teach lessons for students and teachers using either face-to-face and/or virtual platforms. Must have effective oral and written communication skills. Must have a demonstrated ability to work effectively within a diverse group of students, educators, and schools.  Complies with and enforces school and MSiC rules, administrative regulations and MSiC Board policy. Performs other related duties as assigned. Driver’s license and vehicle required as is the ability to move lesson equipment (kits) to off-site locations when teaching.

 

GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK:  Work requires frequent travel to school and satellite sites throughout the Consortium. Some Saturday and after-school events are expected. Job requires typical exertion of up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move curriculum materials.

PAY SCALE: Teacher’s salary scale

 

LENGTH OF CONTRACT: This is an eleven month contract (230 days) position.
