General Description:

 

The School Psychologist provides psychological services to students to include psycho-educational evaluations, placement recommendations, individual and group counseling, consultation services to teachers and crisis intervention.  The School Psychologist also plans and assists in the child study and eligibility process and consults with staff and parents of eligible students to ensure service effectiveness.

 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides a full range of school psychological services to school age children, including screening and assessment, designing educational programs, crisis intervention, individual and group counseling, and collaboration with outside agencies as needed. 
  • Consults with classroom teachers, parents and school personnel regarding special needs of students and evaluates children’s needs, as warranted, identifying those requiring additional services. 
  • Functions as a member of multi-disciplinary teams to determine student’s eligibility for special services, appropriate programming, and on-going progress. 
  • Provides direct services through a variety of methods (e.g., classroom presentations, in-services to staff/parents, etc.) as needed. 
  • Maintains assessment data on students and re-evaluates, as appropriate, to determine extent of progress or need for additional services. 
  • Establishes and monitors the necessary caseloads, procedures, and resources to manage school psychologist services to students/staff and works cooperatively to accomplish the goals of the IEP. 
  • Supports and implements district policies, regulations, procedures, and administrative directives. 

 

Qualifications:

  • Holds a Postgraduate Professional or Pupil Personnel Services license with an endorsement in School Psychology
  • Holds a Master’s degree from an accredited institution or a current license in School Psychology issued by the Virginia Board of Psychology
  • Ability to work independently and to effectively handle multiple school assignments efficiently under minimum daily supervision
  • Ability to effectively engage in individual and group decision making, problem analysis, conflict resolution with other therapeutic and instructional personnel
  • Possesses a valid Virginia Driver’s License and has access to use of a personal vehicle 
  • Has excellent organizational and oral and written communication skills
  • Fluency in Spanish and English preferred
