General Description:
The Coordinator, Student Conduct assists the Hearing Officer with planning, developing, implementing and monitoring division-wide student supports in the area student discipline and alternative placements.  The Coordinator ensures the department follows local, state and federal policies and regulations in the identified areas of supervision and maintains efficient effective work relations with staff and community agencies.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supports the Hearing Officer in ensuring that the school division’s policies and procedures related to student discipline meet local, state, and federal requirements
  • Manages division level disciplinary matters to include scheduling and leading discipline hearings, ensuring accuracy and thoroughness of hearing evidence and documentation, referring hearings to the School Board, and preparation of hearing documents
  • Supports annual revisions of the Student Code of Responsible Ethics (SCORE) as applicable; ensures the SCORE and the disciplinary process and procedures are managed effectively as set forth in School Board policies
  • Assists schools with providing a safe environment that is conducive to learning and free from disruptions by ensuring the establishment of guidelines for student conduct (SCORE) that are acceptable and appropriate within the school environment
  • Analyzes data to determine trends in student discipline and guides training for school staff
  • Acts a resource to school-based administrators and other personnel regarding students, interpretation of policies and laws, Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), and record keeping
  • Coordinates with the appropriate division personnel in transitioning students back to the appropriate educational environment within the division
  • Supports the Hearing Officer with the preparation of annual Student Behavior and Administrative Response (SBAR) Collection submission to the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE)
  • Works with the Hearing Officer, principals and other division leaders to identify appropriate alternative placement for students
  • Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities
  • Maintains a high level of confidentiality
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree required
  • Virginia certification in Administration and Supervision (K-12)
  • Minimum of five years teaching experience in a public-school setting; previous building level administrative experience preferred
  • Considerable knowledge of principles and practices for disciplinary procedures, bullying prevention, attendance, and Multi-Tier Systems of Support (MTSS) processes
  • Ability to initiate, design, and develop new programs and procedures
  • Outstanding interpersonal and team work skills; ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong organizational skills, including keen attention to detail and ease at managing competing demands and determining priorities independently
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment; adaptable when managing multiple, shifting priorities; comfortable with ambiguity
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate complex ideas simply and succinctly
  • Strong computer and technology skills; proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Google and social media platforms, and interest in and ability to learn new platforms
  • Bilingual/proficiency in Spanish preferred
