QUALIFICATIONS:  Postgraduate Professional License with endorsement or eligibility for endorsement in administration and supervision required.  A minimum of three years of successful full-time experience as a classroom teacher in an accredited public or nonpublic school setting.  Leadership and management experience as a department head, supervisor, specialist or other administrative position is desired.  Working knowledge of and experience with site-based management, Early Childhood Education, Head Start and special education program requirements are a necessity.  Demonstrated instructional leadership skills and knowledge of how to effectively develop and implement curriculum, the effective use of technology in the classroom, how to evaluate, motivate and develop staff, and how to provide students with an effective learning environment.  Must have considerable knowledge of how to effectively integrate the skills and processes required by the Virginia Standard of Learning (SOL) into curriculum.  Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, school staff, parents, community and business representatives and central office staff.  Comprehensive knowledge of the practices and methods used in the administration of academic, extracurricular and after-school programs in an elementary school. Bilingual skills to include Spanish are a plus.   

  
PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:  Assists the principal in developing and maintaining an effective educational program consistent with State and Federal guidelines and the philosophy, policies and goals of the School Board and administration. Assists in the overall administration of the school interpreting and enforcing school district policies and regulations. Supervises, evaluates and motivates teachers and departments as assigned by the principal. Serves as principal in the absence of the principal. Proposes schedules of classes and extracurricular activities and helps to schedule courses, students and teachers. Works with department heads and faculty in compiling the annual budget requests. Ensures that requisitions are submitted for supplies, textbooks, and equipment and conducts inventories and maintains records. Assists in coordinating transportation, custodial, cafeteria and other school support services. Helps conduct safety inspections and safety drill practice activities. Assists the principal in the reporting and monitoring of student attendance and the maintenance of student discipline. Maintains a variety of files; prepares periodic and special reports as required. Identifies the special needs of students on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of school district specialists as required. Explains and interprets district-wide curriculum/instructional goals and objectives to teachers, parents, students and the community and business partners/representatives. Assists the principal in the planning and implementation of a systematic method of administration of the instructional program through the use of observations, documentation and follow-up conferences. Assists teachers in evaluating methods and materials and developing an effective lesson plan and classroom preparation. Helps supervise curriculum planning, makes studies of curriculum in cooperation with team leaders, grade-level chairpersons, and central office representatives. Assists with the coordination and supervision of extracurricular and after school activities. Performs other related tasks as required.

 

GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK: Performs professional and administrative work assisting the school principal in the coordination, supervision and management of the school program and operation. Work requires frequent standing, sitting, light lifting up to 10 pounds, walking, vocal communication for expressing or exchanging ideas, hearing to perceive information at a normal spoken word level and visual acuity for preparing and analyzing written or computer data.

SALARIES/LENGTH OF CONTRACT:

ELEMENTARY LEVEL

G-128.1, starting salary is $83,074 and maximum hiring salary is $127,756 for a 260 days (12 months) contract position

Plus a $1,200 salary supplement for a Doctorate's Degree with excellent benefits.  

 

MIDDLE SCHOOL LEVEL

G-129.1, starting salary is $87,236 and maximum hiring salary is $134,159 for a 260 days (12 months) contract position

Plus a $1,200 salary supplement for a Doctorate's Degree with excellent benefits.  

 

HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL

G-130.1, starting salary is $91,601 and maximum hiring salary is $140,870 for a 260 days (12 months) contract position

Plus a $1,200 salary supplement for a Doctorate's Degree with excellent benefits.
