POSITION TITLE: Teacher – Vocational Education – Certified Nurse Aide

 

QUALIFICATIONS: Must hold or be eligible for a Technical Professional License with vocational education endorsement (Health Occupations Education). Must hold a Virginia license and have two years of experience as a registered nurse within the past five years and at least one year of direct patient care experience. A minimum of two years teaching experience in the area of certified nurse aide occupations in an alternative public school setting is preferred. Pharmacy Technician Certification preferred. Course work in basic principles of adult education, teaching methods for adults and alternative education preferred. Knowledge of instructional planning – ability to determine the varied needs and interests of adult and alternative education students; Organizing instruction – ability to prepare teacher-made instructional materials for clinical laboratory experience; Instructional execution – ability to use techniques for simulating patient care and demonstrating manipulative skills. Must have knowledge of the application of technology in the classroom; and Instructional evaluation – ability to determine grades for students in classroom and clinical settings. Must have knowledge of program management to include curriculum development and the ability to keep informed of current curriculum content and patient care practices. Must have knowledge of planning and organizing teaching/occupational laboratory for laboratory simulations/demonstrations and an understanding of the health care industry and the process for issuing credentials for health workers. Must have knowledge of appropriate student evaluation to include the ability to conduct a student follow-up study. Must have excellent communication skills, planning, organizational and public relations skills and ability to work independently with minimum supervision. Must be able to establish and maintain professional working relationships and work in a cooperative and collaborative manner with administrators, supervisors, co-workers and parents. Proficiency with Windows based computers, related software applications, internet and intranet is required.

 

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS: Provides individual and group instruction to students assigned to Certified Nurse Aide classes. Acts as program coordinator for the certified nurse program and ensures that course objectives are accomplished. Prepares lesson plans, organizes materials, develops tests and worksheets; supervises assigned students and implements instruction according to course curriculum. Teaches a double period, one-year course of training to both adult and technical school students. Maintains up to date curricula and accurate individual student records of skills taught and the date of performance by the student. Maintains an accurate record of the student performance based on the approved competency evaluation program. Ensures that students develop skills for state certification and successful employment as a Certified Nurse Aide. Manages student behavior, assesses and evaluates student achievement, and modifies instruction as required. Develops in each student an awareness and understanding coupled with the basic skills and knowledge applicable to a Certified Nurse Aide position. Instills in each student safe working habits, the importance of continuation of his/her education and the development of successful work ethics of reliability, competence, loyalty, and dependability. Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK: Duties performed typically in a school setting. Performs professional work providing teaching and/or training services to students and staff. Work requires frequent standing, sitting, walking, light lifting up to 10 pounds, vocal communication for expressing or exchanging ideas, hearing to perceive information at a normal spoken word level and visual acuity for preparing and analyzing written or computer data.

 

REPORTS TO: Principal

 

PAY SCHEDULE: Teacher Salary Schedule plus 5% salary supplement

 

LENGTH OF CONTRACT: 210 Days (10 months)
