GENERAL DESCRIPTION:


The STEM teacher will partner with classroom teachers to provide authentic, project-based and experiential learning opportunities for our 6-8th grade students with the STEM Academy. The ideal candidate will understand how to provide rigor and extended learning experiences within an innovative learning environment. The ideal candidate will have experience working with faculty and students in diverse learning conditions that feature an interdisciplinary and project-based curriculum. The STEM teacher is key to our strategic goal to nurture our students’ passion for learning by creating an exciting, hands-on, and rigorous theme at every RPS middle & high school.  

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Models effective STEM Education content and instructional practices for traditional and blended learning classrooms through collaboration and coaching
  • Demonstrates knowledge and experience with integrative STEM practices
  • Maintains current research in the area of STEM Education curriculum development and actively participates with educational leaders in curriculum and instruction at the state, regional and national levels
  • Knowledge of cutting-edge technology and how to incorporate technology into instructional practice
  • Evidence of productive experience with project-based learning
  • Proven ability to apply cross-curricular content knowledge, formative assessment, and technology integration at a high level
  • Self-reflects on teaching practices and be responsive to feedback
  • Assists in the preparation of data for local, state and federal reports
  • Demonstrates the ability to collaborate, model, deliver, and craft rich student-centered, cross-curricular learning experiences around Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math
  • Attends professional development and training related to STEM programs and methodologies, staying abreast of current research
  • Assists in organizing, developing, and participating in STEM centered learning events, activities, initiatives, and curriculum
  • Approaches work with a sense of possibility and sees challenges as opportunities for creative problem solving; takes initiative to explore issues and identifies potential innovative solutions
  • Commits to five (5) hours of additional instructional work per week
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Collegiate or postgraduate professional license or be eligible for a provisional license in one of the following content/subject teaching areas: Mathematics, Mathematics Middle Education 6-8, Laboratory Sciences Middle Education 6-8, or Career and Technical Education – Technology Education
  • At least 5 years of demonstrated knowledge of STEM education and instruction or equivalent preferred.
  • Bilingual skills to include Spanish are a plus


GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK: Duties performed typically in a school setting. Performs professional work providing teaching and/or training services to students in a specialized subject. Work requires frequent standing, sitting, light lifting up to 10 pounds, walking, vocal communication for expressing or exchanging ideas, hearing to perceive information at a normal spoken word level and visual acuity for preparing and analyzing written or computer data.

PAY SCALE: Teacher’s salary scale

LENGTH OF CONTRACT: This is a 9.5 month (200 days) contract position with excellent benefits.

 

FLSA: Exempt
