QUALIFICATIONS: 

 

Postgraduate Professional License with endorsement or eligibility for endorsement in administration and supervision required. A minimum of three years of successful full-time experience as a preschool classroom teacher. Leadership and management experience as a department head, supervisor, specialist or other administrative position is desired. Working knowledge of and experience with site-based management, Early Childhood Education, Head Start and special education program requirements are a necessity. Demonstrated instructional leadership skills and knowledge of how to effectively develop and implement curriculum, develop and implement professional development for staff, the effective use of technology in the classroom, how to motivate and develop staff, and how to provide students with an effective learning environment. Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, school staff, parents, community and business representatives and central office staff. Comprehensive knowledge of the practices and methods used in the administration of academic, extracurricular and after-school programs in a preschool setting. Bilingual skills to include Spanish are a plus. 

 

 

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS: 

Assists the principal in developing and maintaining an effective educational program consistent with State and Federal guidelines and the philosophy, policies and goals of the School Board and administration. Assists in implementing developmentally appropriate preschool curricula. Visit classrooms on a regular basis and coach and provide feedback to teachers to support high quality teaching practices using practice- based coaching.  Maintain records around coaching feedback.  Provide support around the use of performance-based assessments including supporting quality assessment practices, interpretation of data and the use of assessment data in planning. Perform additional duties as assigned that are directly related to overall early childhood classroom improvement and overall school culture and climate improvement. Explains and interprets district-wide curriculum/instructional goals and objectives to teachers, parents, students and the community and business partners/representative.  Assists teachers in developing lesson plans and classroom preparation. Supervise curriculum planning.  Supports social and emotional initiatives within the building.

 

 

GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK:  

 

Performs professional and administrative work assisting the school principal in the coordination, supervision and management of the school program and operation. Work requires frequent standing, sitting, light lifting up to 10 pounds, walking, vocal communication for expressing or exchanging ideas, hearing to perceive information at a normal spoken word level and visual acuity for preparing and analyzing written or computer data.
