Immediate Supervisor: Coordinator School Health Services

 

General Description:
Performs professional work by recruiting, managing, and supervising school nurses and health services providers, providing supervision of nurses, as well as, unlicensed personnel in the implementation of clinical services in the school division.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Coordinator of School Health Services to plan and promote a comprehensive school health program
  • Coordinate the delivery of high-quality school nursing/health services to meet the health and safety needs of children
  • Support the district with the recruitment and retention of high-quality health services personnel
  • Orient and train health services personnel and qualified personnel to implement appropriate health services, protocols, and practices in the school
  • Support the Coordinator of School Health Services with the development of a comprehensive professional development program for staff
  • Provide clinical consultation and support to health education staff, educators, and other administrative, teaching, and support staff
  • Carry out communicable disease prevention and infection control measures based on current guidelines for universal precautions
  • Provide nursing services to support schools as needed
  • Assumes responsibility for own professional growth and development by keeping current with the literature and new research findings
  • Performs related tasks as required


Qualifications:

  • A valid license as a registered nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia is required
  • A Bachelor of Science in Nursing required with a Master’s degree in nursing or a related field preferred
  • Must hold and maintain certification in CPR and basic first aid
  • Bilingual skills including Spanish are preferred
  • Knowledge of human growth and development, with emphasis on childhood and adolescence
  • Demonstrated ability in health services program assessment, evaluation, development, and improvement
  • Knowledgeable of the coordination of health care service delivery, related service providers, community agencies, and other resource providers
  • Experience using Microsoft Office software required
  • Ability to direct and supervise the activities of school nurses and clinic managers
  • Work requires frequent standing, light lifting up to 10 pounds, sitting, walking, vocal communication for expressing or exchanging ideas, hearing to perceive information at a normal spoken word level, and visual acuity for preparing and analyzing written or computer data.
