Job Title: Area Supervisor, School Nutrition Services (SNS) Grade Level/Terms of Employment: 121/ 12 Month contract (260 Days) FLSA Status: Exempt Work Location: Various Elementary, Middle, and High Schools Immediate Supervisor: Director, School Nutrition Services
General Description: The Area Supervisor, of School Nutrition Services is responsible for ensuring successful daily meal service in 12-17 RPS schools and is responsible for assisting managers with problems, evaluating financial information, and making recommendations for efficient operations. The Supervisor oversees and coordinates different aspects of the school nutrition program to implement the goals and policies of the RPS School Nutrition Services Program and USDA Child Nutrition Programs. The employee must exercise considerable independent judgment and initiative in planning, developing, and coordinating to effectively prepare and serve nutritious meals in pleasant eating environments.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assists the Director in developing annual goals and measures for success and guides school staff to meet these goals
- Provides feedback to the director on the effectiveness of the food service operation at each school site
- Staff schools to define department standards
- Supervises and evaluates SNS staff at all assigned schools; prepares and facilitates training and ongoing support for staff to include food preparation, serving, cleaning, and cashiering
- Monitors, reviews, and approves inventory and order requests and financial reports from staff
- Conducts federal accountability reviews and provides technical assistance
- Tests and standardizes recipes using the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) management procedure
- Ensures menus that are prepared by nutrition services personnel are followed without deviation in the school cafeterias
- Initiates corrective action needed following health department inspections; ensures proper standards for sanitation are maintained
- Conceptualizes and implements marketing plans designed to increase nutrition integrity, meal participation, and public awareness of the educational benefits of school meals
- Effectively communicates and presents nutrition-related topics to diverse audiences using visual aids and electronic slide presentations to enhance understanding and engagement
- Manages payroll system for an assigned group
- Represents the department at various local, state, and national professional events
- Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Five years of relevant supervisory food management experience is required; a Bachelor’s degree in the field of hospitality management, nutrition, dietetics, or business preferred
- Registered Dietitian or Registered Dietitian eligible with school nutrition experience desired
- Possesses current Sanitation Certification (ServSafe®)
- Possesses School Nutrition Association Level 3 Certificate or the ability to obtain a Level 3 Certificate within one year of hire
- Experience leading multi-site food service operations
- Experience in managing large-scale projects
- Fluency with Microsoft Office Products and Google Workspace. The ability to learn and become proficient with School Nutrition software
- Ability to exercise independent judgment and to use initiative when responding to emergencies, resolving problems, and making improvements in the cafeteria operation
- Excellent communication (verbal and written) skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, team environment; strong interpersonal skills
- Bilingual fluency/Spanish preferred
