General Description: The Assistant Principal III collaborates with the Department of Academic Programs and Supports in organizing and fostering a positive, safe environment that is conducive to meeting the needs of students, staff and parents. This includes such responsibilities as: leading, directing, counseling, and supervising a variety of personnel and programs; creating effective parent, teacher, and student communications; supporting, encouraging, mentoring, and evaluating staff; fostering teamwork between teachers and among staff and parents; and managing budget items. The Assistant Principal III is key to our strategic goal of nurturing our students and staff while supporting exciting, hands-on, and rigorous learning for every student.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain clear and effective communication with parents, school administrators, secondary instructors and Central Office Personnel.
- Assess student learning and evaluate the program’s success to monitor program effectiveness.
- Collaborate with Department of Academic Programs and Supports to assist with recruitment, hiring, mentoring, and supervising of secondary instructors.
- Develop ongoing training and professional development opportunities for secondary instructors.
- Assists in the overall administration of the school interpreting and enforcing school district policies and regulations.
- Coordinate program logistics, instructional topics, and required teaching materials for students in an alternative setting.
- Maintain a safe, healthy, supportive, and collaborative learning environment for students.
- Operate as an advocate for and supporter of blended learning, collaboration and other instructional modalities according to Virginia’s “Profile of a Graduate”.
- Provide guidance, coaching and professional development to teachers on educational and instructional methodology related to alternative programs.
- Ensures that requisitions are submitted for supplies, textbooks, and equipment and conducts inventories and maintains records.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Postgraduate Professional License with endorsement or eligibility for endorsement in administration and supervision required.
- At least 5 years of successful full-time experience as a classroom teacher in an accredited public or nonpublic school setting.
- At least 2 years of leadership and management experience.
General Conditions of Work: Work requires frequent standing, sitting, light lifting up to 10 pounds, walking, vocal communication for expressing or exchanging ideas, hearing to perceive information at a normal spoken word level and visual acuity for preparing and analyzing written or computer data.
