TITLE: Teacher – Hospital Education – Math or Science- MCV Campus (High School)
QUALIFICATIONS: Must hold a Postgraduate Professional License in high school
Mathematics and/or Sciences. Bachelor’s Degree in mathematics or sciences at the Middle/High school level required. Two years of teaching experience or its equivalency is preferred. Experience conducting lessons and assessing student progress, meeting with parents to discuss student progress and
problem areas preferred. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills, a
general knowledge of special education regulations and IEPs preferred. Must have the ability to
establish and maintain effective working relationships with departmental colleagues,
hospital staff, school division and community representatives. Upon request, may be asked
to submit a writing sample.
PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS: Provides daily instruction for patients in an acute care
hospital setting at Children’s Hospital of Richmond/ MCV Campus. Assesses and develops
educational strategies and adaptations based upon individualized educational needs and
physical/medical limitations. Plans and implements lessons that meet the individual needs,
interests and abilities of students. Creates an environment that is conducive to learning and
appropriate to the developmental level of the students. Prepares for students assigned and
shows written evidence of preparation in accordance with Richmond Hospital Education
Program requirements, and state and federal guidelines. Guides the learning process and
establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects with the ability to
communicate these objectives effectively to students. Employs a variety of instructional
techniques and instructional media to meet the needs and capabilities of the student or
students involved. Communicates with schools/agencies regarding specific students and
exchanges information with the medical team as needed. Maintains ongoing communication
with parents. Establishes and promotes positive public relations. Accepts responsibility for
special assignments as designated.
Maintains accurate and complete records/documentation. Participates as a Hospital Education Program faculty member in all staff meetings, professional development and maintains an active participation as a member of the professional learning community. Adheres to the terms of the employment contract
with Richmond Public Schools and abides by the policies and regulations of the School Board
and the hospital. Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law and RHEP
policy. Strives to maintain and improves professional competence. Exerts leadership in
working with school and RHEP staff. Provides for professional growth through an ongoing
program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences and/or advanced course work at
institutions of higher learning. Assists in the preparation of data for local, state and federal
reports. Assists in the collection of data for providing appropriate intervention. Performs
other related duties as assigned.
GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK: Duties performed typically in a
hospital setting. While the focus of instruction will be primarily high school populations, the
expectation will also include working with middle school students. Performs professional
work providing teaching and/or training services to students in mathematics and/or sciences. Work requires frequent standing, sitting, light lifting up to 10 pounds, walking, vocal communication for
expressing or exchanging ideas, hearing to perceive information at a normal spoken word
level and visual acuity for preparing and analyzing written or computer data.

PAY SCALE: Teacher Salary Schedule
LENGTH OF CONTRACT: This is an eleven month (230 days) contract position is eleven months with excellent benefits.
FLSA: Exempt
