General Description:
The ECE Instructional Coordinator provides instructional leadership by building preschool educator capacity and understanding of the early childhood curriculum and instructional practices aligned to the Virginia Early Learning & Development Standards (ELDS) to foster student academic success.   The Coordinator is responsible for ensuring high-quality instruction in classrooms through the development of non-evaluative support models for teachers, strategic coordination of coaching and classroom support, use of program data, and pedagogical knowledge of early childhood best practices. In collaboration with other program leaders, the Coordinator provides vision, structure, and direction for coaches to ensure educational support, professional learning opportunities, assessment support, and practice based coaching experiences aligned with program objectives and best practices.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provides technical assistance, training, and professional development for preschool teachers across preschool programs (Virginia Preschool Initiative, Head Start, Early Childhood Exceptional Ed)
• Monitors and supervises team of instructional coaches/staff
• Coordinates activities of the coaching team to assist teachers in planning, sequencing, and implementing strategies that support preschool instruction
• Provides ongoing staff development and technical assistance for teachers and instructional assistants in various skill areas to support the delivery of instruction and increase student kindergarten readiness
• Observes, models for, and coaches classroom teachers for the purpose of promoting a school and center-based professional learning community
• Assesses the needs and skills of teachers and leads on-going and job-embedded professional development
• Support teachers and school leaders for valid administration of a variety of standardized and informal assessment measures used to implement and evaluate the preschool program
• Engages in data analysis to inform instruction, determine coaching and professional learning needs, and for continuous improvement purposes
• Prepares presentations, materials and handouts for staff development and training
• Distributes appropriate curriculum materials and resources to teachers as needed 
• Assists with maintaining accurate and current inventory records for documentation and compliance
• Collaborates with ECE department of Family Engagement to design parent programs and provide them with information and materials for home use
• Attends local, state, and national conferences for educational and professional growth opportunities
• Performs other related tasks as required
  
  
  

Qualifications:

• Postgraduate professional license with an endorsement in Elementary Education PreK/early grades and Administration & Supervision, or ability to obtain, required
• Minimum of three years recent successful experience as a lead preschool teacher
• Ability to provide instructional leadership, professional development, and management of the Early Childhood Education program curriculum and methods to achieve high levels of preschool student performance
• Knowledgeable of current research and developmentally appropriate preschool practices and ability to create a high-quality preschool environment that supports Virginia’s Early Learning & Development Standards
• Familiar with strategies and skills related to the Virginia’s Early Learning & Development Standards and how curriculum may be organized to teach these standards to diverse learners
• Experience with administration of literacy assessments, data analysis and using data to inform instruction and monitor student progress
• Excellent coaching, problem solving and experience providing professional development and technical assistance to teachers
• Outstanding interpersonal and team work skills; ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders
• Strong organizational skills, including keen attention to detail and ease at managing competing demands and determining priorities independently
• Experience working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment; adaptable when managing multiple, shifting priorities; comfortable with ambiguity
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate complex ideas simply and succinctly
• Strong computer and technology skills; proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Google
• Bilingual/fluency in Spanish preferred
