QUALIFICATIONS: Postgraduate Professional License with an endorsement in Severe Disabilities K-12 (Adapted Curriculum). Preference will be given to those applicants having experience with medically fragile, trach dependent and multiply disabled students. Experience with assistive technology is required or Certification in Assistive Technology preferred. The successful candidate must have excellent oral and written communication skills, a working knowledge of special education regulations, IEP'S, and transition plans. Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with departmental
colleagues, hospital staff, school division and community representatives. Must have the physical strength and ability to position/lift students that weigh up to 50 pounds and to transport students confined to wheelchairs. Upon request applicants may be asked to submit a writing sample.


PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS: Provides daily instruction for medically fragile severely disabled students housed on the Transitional Care Unit at Children’s Hospital. Assesses and develops educational strategies and adaptations based upon individualized educational needs and physical/medical limitations. Develops IEP's and other plans as needed. Communicates with schools/agencies regarding specific students and exchanges information with TCU team. Maintains ongoing communication with parents. Establishes and promotes positive public relations. Accepts responsibility for special assignments as designated. Participates in staffing and other professional development activities.
Maintains accurate and complete records/documentation. Participates as a Hospital Education Program faculty member. Adheres to the terms of the employment contract with the Richmond Public Schools and abides by the policies and regulations of the School Board and the hospital. Performs other related duties as assigned.


GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK: Duties will be performed typically in a hospital setting. Performs professional work providing teaching and/or training services to students with severe disabilities in grades K-12. Work requires frequent standing, sitting, light lifting up to 10 pounds, walking, vocal communication for expressing or exchanging ideas, hearing to perceive information at a normal spoken word level and visual acuity for preparing and analyzing written or computer data.

PAY SCALE: Teacher’s salary scale

LENGTH OF CONTRACT:This is an eleven month (230 days) contract position with excellent benefits.
