General Description:
The Early Intervention Reading Initiative (EIRI) tutor will work closely with the K-3 grade level teachers to provide tiered reading support for students identified as at risk for reading difficulties with the Virginia Language and Literacy Screener System (VALLSS). The tutor will also work closely with reading interventionists and literary coaches to implement the goals and strategies outlined within the Student Reading Plan for students to help improve their literacy skills.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide students (K-3rd) with small group tutoring to support students’ growth in literacy skills.
- Participate in on-going professional development prior to conducting academic interventions using research-based instructional strategies
- Collaborate with teachers to provide developmentally appropriate instruction to support students’ understanding of the fundamentals of reading
- Work with the classroom teacher to support progress monitoring of student growth
- Support school-based literacy team in implementing Student Reading Plans for Tier 3 students
- Work collaboratively with the teacher to plan, implement, and review needed interventions with specific students
- Attend meetings conducted by the district reading intervention specialist
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, elementary education or a related field preferred
- Experience providing small group instructional support with students in the area of reading or language instruction is required
- Excellent communication, organization, and time management skills
- Must have the ability to implement Early Reading intervention strategies and provide related tiered tutorial support for students
- Ability to work in a cooperative manner with students, parents, teachers, staff, and administrators
- Tutors must have patience, a positive attitude, and ability to build rapport with students
- Must be able to follow written and oral instructions and to perform all required tasks
