General Description:
The Professional Learning Instructional Specialist works collaboratively with school and district staff to support district and school-based professional development plans and provide training and technical assistance with data collection on the implementation and impact of professional learning. The position supports the implementation of a professional learning feedback cycle and ensures accurate records of district and school-based learning opportunities are maintained. The position uses innovation to support the implementation of effective and impactful learning opportunities with staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assists with professional development projects from conception, development, establishment, and evaluation.
- Supports the coordination of division-wide and school-based professional development opportunities; inclusive of non-traditional learning opportunities with technology.
- Promotes the use of micro-credentialing to provide avenues teachers can use to pursue individual professional goals in teaching and learning.
- Supports the efficiency and effectiveness of the job-embedded professional development data collection process.
- Assists in the collection, review, and submission of all required information for district, state and federal reporting.
- Provides training sessions and technical assistance to district and school-based staff on professional development data collection and video-capturing tools.
- Maintains a tracking system for the video-capturing technology hardware and software.
- Uses innovation to accurately and effectively communicate upcoming learning opportunities in a variety of ways and promptly.
- Supports the monitoring of a comprehensive plan to collect, analyze, and evaluate professional learning events.
- Ensures completion of all requirements regarding the upload of information to the professional development data collection platform and the professional learning website.
- Collaborates with professional development facilitators in a formal feedback process to measure and support the continuous improvement of the quality of professional learning that is provided to staff.
- Maintains a working relationship across departments and with school staff to support division-wide and school-based improvement plans and associated professional learning goals.
- Attends seminars, conferences, workshops, classes, lectures, etc., as appropriate, to enhance and maintain knowledge of trends and developments in adult education, attends association and professional meetings, and otherwise maintains contacts with professionals to facilitate the exchange of information.
- Assumes responsibility for own professional growth and development by keeping current with the literature and new research findings.
- Contributes to team efforts by accomplishing related tasks as needed or assigned.
Qualifications:
- Must hold a Virginia teaching license with a minimum of 5 years of classroom teaching experience (grades 3-8 preferred)
- Working knowledge of division-approved technology and web-based platforms, hardware, and software; inclusive of MS Office, Google, Swivl Technologies, and Canvas
- Working knowledge of adult learning theory and professional learning standards
- Ability to work in a collaborative manner with a variety of diverse groups, including teachers, administrators, and external vendors
- Understands the importance of technology and automation in data capture and analysis
- The ability to appropriately prioritize tasks is detail- and solutions-oriented, and willing to learn and assume responsibility
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
