General Description:
The Transportation Routing Manager oversees the planning and coordination of pupil transportation routes and schedules, ensuring compliance with safety guidelines, district policies, and federal/state regulations. This role involves leading a team of routing staff and coordinators, optimizing transportation efficiency, and serving as a key point of contact for stakeholders while maintaining data accuracy and generating reports to support transportation operations.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
? Trains manages and supports the routing staff responsible for designing and managing school bus routes, and the transportation management specialists responsible for scheduling auxiliary transport, invoicing, and billing, using routing
software to maximize efficiency, minimize travel time, and reduce costs
? Conducts regular performance reviews, provides feedback, and manages scheduling,and timekeeping of direct reports
? Collaborates with the procurement team as needed to secure reliable and efficient transportation vendors and services
? Analyzes and adjusts routes as needed for efficiency and effectiveness, changes in student enrollment, school boundaries, road closures, requests, and others
? Provides stakeholders with updated stop information and/or route sheet, as changes are made
? Coordinates with information technology to verify student data, maintain records, routes, maps, and data pertaining to routing
? Working knowledge of federal, state, and local rules, regulations, and laws pertaining to pupil transportation
? Works with the transportation team to ensure compliance with division policies, safety guidelines, and federal/state regulations, including but not limited to guidelines for confidentiality
? Serve as a contact for vendors, school-based staff, parents, and guardians, providing information on routes, schedules, and transportation policies
? Provides and/or schedules training on route management software as needed
? Generates reports on transportation costs, student ridership, miles, programs, and others, as needed

? Oversees the tabulation of mileage and student count data for submission to the Virginia Department of Education annually
? Makes recommendations and assists supervisors as needed
? Ensure bus stop and field trip requests are processed in a timely manner
? Assumes responsibility for own professional growth and development by keeping current with the literature and new research findings
? Contributes to team efforts by accomplishing related tasks as needed or assigned


Qualifications:
• An Associate’s Degree is preferred.
• At least three years of supervisory experience managing a team is required.
• Comprehensive knowledge in pupil transportation or related transportation management in an urban public school system is preferred.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills are essential.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and meet multiple deadlines.
• Must be able to work in a cooperative and collaborative manner with all employees, school administration, business, and community representatives.
• Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel applications, internet, and email applications required.
• Efficient in the use of Tyler Technology Traversa Software preferred.
